Welcome
to LandsEndJohnOGroats.com
Our
objectives and aims are to provide an Association for any member of the
public who has travelled, by whatever means from Land's
End to John O'Groats (or vice versa) as a continuous
journey - and succeeded.
A recent survey
revealed that almost half of the current membership are cyclists, and
about a quarter are walkers; The remainder being mostly motorists and
motorcyclists.
Others have travelled by public
transport, ridden on horseback or in wheelchairs. One Member managed it
by supermarket trolley and another on a quad-bike. Some Members have
travelled by anything but the most direct route. Some have included most
of the National Parks, others the highest points in England, Scotland and
Wales, and two Members even included the End to End of Ireland in their
Journey. The imagination and resourcefulness of Members has no bounds! The longest end-to-end trip to date was
completed by two members, by bicycle, and covered 5000 miles, most of it
through mainland Europe.
The Association unites such
people through its quarterly magazine "Quo Vadis?" and its social
activities. The latter include:
·
A summer weekend break - which in recent years
has been held at Truro, Colwyn Bay and York.
·
The Annual Awards Presentation Weekend - held
each January in Torquay.
Any member of the Association is eligible for an award if their journey meets the relevant criteria
for a particular trophy.
It is not a requirement of
membership that funds have been raised for charity. Nevertheless, most
Members have raised such funds, and collectively have contributed more
than £7,500,500 for charitable purposes. We are not a registered charity.
Since its inauguration in
1983, the association has attracted over 1100 Members.
